'Checking Mat' - Unable to Cut

Anyone else having this problem with SCAL2? I can't cut a thing....as soon as I try to cut, it says 'Checking Mat', and that's as far as it gets. Not sure what to do. I upgraded the software to 2.04, my cricut expression is updated to 2.32 firmware. I get this when I tried it on my VISTA PC (with XP compatability checked) and also tried in my laptop which has windows XP on it. With both of them, it stops completely at 'Checking Mat'.

Maybe I am missing something?

Have you tried NOT running it in XP compatibility mode? I know lots of people here are running it in XP mode, but since the upgrade I haven't need to.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I have this same issue but I am running on a Mac - OS Leopard. I would really like to be able to use my SCAL and Cricut, but right now, when I hit cut, it will not cut. I have to close the cutting dialog box down. Then when I try to do anything in SCAL again, it crashes. Any help would be appreciated!

Chelseigh,
Assuming it will cut the first time, then crashes on the subsequent cut, this is a known bug in the Mac version, but it has an easy workaround. All you need to do is unplug and replug your USB cable between cuts. It is also a good idea to save your file before every cut so that if you forget to do the unplug/replug and crash you will not lose your work.

Is this a design where you checked "weld". Mine will not work when "weld" is checked but if I uncheck it, works fine.

Actually, I have never experienced the Mac bug problem. My problems started once I updated to the latest version of SCAL. Now I cannot cut anything. It will not cut once. It just freezes on the "checking mat... checking cartridge... etc" dialog box that pops up. Then after I close that box down, it crashes everytime I try to do anything else is SCAL (whether cut, save, it doesn't matter). I emailed Craft Edge about this and they haven't gotten back to me. Any other ideas?

I don't have any other ideas, but I'll be holding off on that update, so thanks for the headsup

Maybe if you post your OS and SCAL version, etc. someone will have some insight.

I had the same problem. You need to download Microsoft Sync software. I did this and now everything works fine. Just go to microsoft.com and it is a free download.

has anyone else had a go at this one, I have searched for sync but not really sure what I am looking for, I will try anything!! is it the sync framework?
