I have seen some posts about ungrouping in SCAL2 but they didn't address my problem. When I import an svg into SCAL2 that has more than one image, I can not ungroup them. The ungroup under the object tab is grayed out, as in not available. The other actions are there, such as group, lock and unlock, just not the ungroup. I asked the same question on another newsgroup and they suggested that there may be a problem with the program itself. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling would there another way to fix this?

Thanks
Pam

You need to have layered svg files in order to be able to ungroup the layers in SCAL2. I an Inkscape tutorial on creating actual layers here and one here on using Group to import into layers in SCAL2. HTH

I sent a file that I was working with to another SCAL user and she was able to ungroup all the objects after the svg file was imported into SCAL2. After she imported it, she highlighted the file and was then able to ungroup. When I do this I'm not able to ungroup that option is grayed out.

Make sure that you have the current version (2.005). I'm not sure if the first versions had the ungroup capability.

Is the layers window open in SCAL2? If it is, does it show a triangle next to the file name?

I'm thinking that if the Group option is available and the Ungroup isn't, then your file might already be ungrouped. Did you try moving the outermost piece away from the rest? Also, you can hide layers without ungrouping if that would help.

The svg file must either be layered or grouped in inkscape first prior to import into SCAL2. You don't have to layer I think that grouping things in inkscape is alittle easier than using the layer function. Layering will get the job done though. But once you group the svg file and import it into SCAL2 you should have the ungroup function available (object>ungroup).

Here's a video tutorial if you need help on grouping.

And here's a video tutorial if you want to try the layering method
