Alright, I was getting a little frustrated with attempting to get a nice flourish with tapered ends that looks like a brush stroke. And after what seems like hours of messing around with it, I think I came up with a way to work it. I used the Bezier Tool to create the pattern, however this process will work using the Spiral Tool as well. I don't know if any of you have used the Spiro option associated with Bezier but it's a great option that gives you that slick look.

And yes I was using .47 Pre Release Inkscape. Link will be in the sidebar of the video on where you can download Inkscape .47preRelease version 4

Here's a follow up video on more things you can do with the Bezier Tool for flourishes

I tried to follow your tutorial, but I'm having a problem. When I copy the "stroke" object into the clipboard it gets transformed to a bitmap. If I paste the copied object, the result is a bitmap. I don't have this behavior in 0.46. Is there a setting somewhere that is messing me up?

That is a mac issue. See this post for more info on it. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8347

Why make a bitmap copy? Just select your flourishes and Path/Object to path. HTH

Thanks. That fixed it for me.

Right. I was going to try "Stroke to path" and see if that overcame the problem shown in the video.

Ha that's a simple one to answer... because I figured it was already a path why make it a path again?

Then I see what making it a path does.. it's like merging the effects so you can no longer tweak them. Oh well they both yield the same result, however making it a path it better because bmp's can be pixilated.

After reading what you posted...I feel stupid now :o Thanks for that tip H!
